Jersey Street is a heady combo of Deep House, Spiritual Jazz, Latin rhythms and raw soul saw them embraced by audiences all around the world when they first appeared on the scene. The band features ‘Manchester’s best kept secret’, vocalist Dawn Zee, who has been compared with the likes of Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Lauren Hill.
Jersey Street has created a series of remixes of the track to their latest album, Love Rising Up, featuring A Certain Ratio and Luis Sullivan.
To those in the know, A Certain Ratio (ACR) needs no introduction. To those yet to hear them, an adventure in genre-and-mind-bending music awaits.
Heavily influential on bands such as Talking Heads and ESG, ACR brings their whole eclectic punk-funk show to this stunning re-work of Jersey Street’s Love Rising Up. With nods toward Latin, Samba, Funk and Afrobeat, ACR adds a full live percussion section to the rich strings and horns of the original song.
Hot young producer Luis Sullivan also brings his fresh-yet-classic take on the same track, connecting the dots between Jersey Street’s Deep House roots and the jazzier inflections of their recent work. Luis takes the track to the dance floor, but still allows the vocals and instrumentation to soar.
Jersey Street’s Matt Steele, Neil Reid and Dawn Zee add, “As a band, it’s seriously exciting hearing these takes on our music, that breathe new life and colour into it. It’s an honour for us to work alongside both these artists.”
Their first single, Love Rising Up - A Certain Ratio Vocal Rework, is released on Friday, 12th November.
