JAZZWISE VIDEO OF THE DAY: JOSHUA CAVANAGH-BRIERLEY SHARES STUNNING SCENIC VIDEO FOR 'ATTACHMENT'

The bassist and composer presents a stunning scene video that reflects his emotive solo piano piece 'Attachment'

Joy In Bewilderment is bassist and composer Joshua Cavanagh-Brierley’s third album release following his self-titled debut and I Want To Be Everything. It features special guests Chris Potter and Caoilfhionn Rose and a versatile ensemble in different formats – from a string quartet to a 13-piece horn-led ensemble with three drummers, to solo piano and vocal-led storytelling.

Two of the seven original compositions will be released ahead of the album – ‘Brew’, a guitar-led track inspired by guitarist Daniel Brew, features the full 12-piece ensemble with six horns, guitar, piano, bass and three drummers, while ‘Attachment’, is a meditatitve solo piano piece. “This composition deals with the beauty and fragility of attachment,” says Cavanagh-Brierley. “I recorded this on a mini grand piano in GoGo Penguin’s studio space.”

Joy In Bewilderment is an intimate expression and contemplation on how you can feel and function in modern society. It depicts the perplexity on the political climate and humanistic vulnerability through an amalgamation of resilience, puzzlement and exasperation. Even within these surroundings, it encapsulates optimism for the future and gratitude for the now,” explains Cavanagh-Brierley. “This is the music that I hear, and it feels like the most honest expression I’ve created to date.”
